Janette Luevanos, Parent Organizer
Janette Luevanos, daughter of Mexican immigrants, is a graduate from the University of California, Irvine with a BA in Criminology, Law and Society and minors in African American Studies and Chicano/Latino Studies. At UC Irvine, she was involved with organizations/groups such as el Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlan, La Familia, Raza Graduation, Queer Xicana Radio, the Student Outreach and Retention (SOAR) Center, Cross-Cultural Center, and more. During her time there she focused on outreaching and working with low income, first generation and/or marginalized youth of color. She also collaborated with other student leaders of color on campus to bring awareness about race, gender and sexuality through workshops, youth conferences, panels, radio shows and cultural events on and off campus. Janette is from Inglewood, CA and is currently a Familias Unidas Parent Organizer with InnerCity Struggle.
